Community Theatre of Howell is a Livingston County nonprofit dedicated to encouraging the study and appreciation of the performing arts. Based in Howell, the organization produces plays and musicals throughout the year while creating opportunities for community members of different ages and experience levels to participate both on stage and behind the scenes.
Its mainstage productions bring together local actors, directors, musicians, designers, technicians and volunteers to create live theatre for audiences throughout the community. Participation is not limited to performers. Volunteers also contribute through set construction, costumes, lighting, sound, stage management, ushering, production support and other roles involved in bringing each show to the stage.
Youth programming is a significant part of the organization’s work. Community Theatre of Howell offers summer theatre camps for elementary, middle and high school students, giving participants hands-on experience in acting, singing, dancing, character development, teamwork and technical theatre. The organization also operates a Theatre Academy with workshops designed for younger performers and provides scholarships to help make theatre opportunities more accessible to local youth.
Beyond its productions and educational programs, Community Theatre of Howell participates in local events and creates additional ways for residents to become involved in the performing arts. Its volunteer-driven structure allows community members to contribute their time and skills while gaining practical experience in many aspects of theatrical production.
Community support helps make these programs possible. Donations, sponsorships, memberships, ticket purchases and volunteer participation support productions, youth programming, scholarships and the organization’s broader goal of keeping live community theatre accessible in Livingston County.
