Foster Closet of Michigan

Foster Closet of Michigan – Livingston County Branch is a volunteer-run nonprofit that helps children in foster care and the families caring for them by providing clothing, shoes, toys, books, baby equipment, hygiene products and other everyday essentials at no cost.

Children can enter foster care with very little notice and sometimes with few personal belongings. The Livingston County branch helps fill that immediate gap by giving foster families access to new and gently used items they may need when welcoming a child into their home. Families can return as needs change, including when children outgrow clothing, seasons change or a new placement arrives.

The organization serves children across a wide range of ages and works to provide items that are practical, age-appropriate and in good condition. Available support can include clothing, coats, shoes, diapers and baby gear, school and hygiene supplies, books, toys, luggage and other items that help children feel more comfortable and prepared during a period of significant transition.

The Livingston County branch also supports relative and kinship placements and may assist other children and families facing difficult circumstances when referred through appropriate community sources. Local donation drives and seasonal projects help the organization respond to ongoing needs throughout the year.

The branch operates entirely through volunteers and community support. Residents, businesses and community groups can contribute by donating needed items, organizing collection drives, volunteering or providing financial support. These contributions help the organization continue providing practical assistance to foster children and families throughout Livingston County.
