Livingston County Choirs is a community-based nonprofit that brings people together through choral music, performance and education. Founded in 1991, the organization provides opportunities for singers of different ages and musical backgrounds to participate in high-quality ensemble experiences while sharing live music with audiences throughout Livingston County.
The organization includes three distinct ensembles: the Livingston County Chorale, the Women’s Chorus and the Youth Choir. Together, these groups perform a wide range of music, including classical works, Broadway selections, pop, a cappella and vocal jazz. Concert programming throughout the year gives local singers opportunities to develop their skills while providing accessible live performances for the broader community.
Education is an important part of the organization’s work. The Youth Choir introduces students in grades 2 through 8 to ensemble singing and musicianship, while adult members continue developing their vocal abilities through rehearsals, performances and work with experienced directors. The organization also encourages lifelong participation in music by creating opportunities for singers to remain involved beyond school-based programs.
Livingston County Choirs also participates in community outreach throughout the area. Its ensembles have performed at local holiday celebrations, nursing homes, community events and benefit concerts supporting other nonprofit organizations and causes. These appearances allow the choirs to use music as a way to connect with residents and contribute to community events beyond their regular concert season.
Community members can support Livingston County Choirs by attending performances, joining one of the ensembles, volunteering or contributing financially. The Friends of the Choirs volunteer group assists with concert operations, audience support, fundraising and other activities that help the organization continue providing choral opportunities in Livingston County.
